Steps for Installing Carpet Edging Trim:
Prepare and Measure: Cut the carpet edge straight and ensure it reaches the center of the doorway. Measure the width of the opening and cut your transition metal/trim to size using a hacksaw.
Install the Trim:
Wood Subfloor: Position the trim and nail it down using the pre-drilled holes, tapping it in with a hammer.
Concrete Subfloor: Mark holes through the trim with a marker, drill with a hammer drill, place concrete anchors, and screw/nail the trim down.
Secure the Carpet:
Using Z-Bar: Position the metal, tuck the carpet into the "Z" shape, and tap the top flange down to hold the carpet securely.
Using Flat/Single Nap: Place the trim close to the carpet, use a knee kicker to stretch the carpet over the edge, and tuck it under the metal, ensuring it is secure.
Finish: Flatten the transition plate with a hammer for a flush finish.
For uneven floors, you can use adhesive to fix the trim. When working with Z-bar, make sure to not flatten the metal profile while cutting.
